About Barry & the
Cues
|
|
In about 1968 a pool room
opened up in Warner Robins, Ga, called Father &
Son Pool. For some reason I was drawn to go in. I
saw a lot of fathers and a lot of sons, but not
together. :-) Although in high school, I spent a
lot of time in that pool room, to the point, the
owner decided to put me to work. I was the new rack
boy. Back then, games were paid by the rack and
collected by the rack boy. This is where my pool
interests began. I picked up that first cue and
haven't set it down since, except for some real
world exceptions.
|
Later, in the
early 1990's, I discovered league pool.
From there I learned more about
tournaments and began to play every week
and weekend. Being an above average
player, I was ofter asked for advice about
pool cues and the game's finer points. It
was then, I saw a need for affordable,
quality cue work. I purchased a small
repair lathe and that was the beginning of
Cameron Custom Cues. I spent the next two
years repairing cues, with this experience
and a previous woodworking background, I
decided to make a cue.
With the purchase of a larger lathe, I
spent much of my time experimenting with
different exotic woods and joint styles. I
was looking for the right combination of
joint, woods and shaft taper and
construction that gave the look and feel I
was looking for.
Since, I've purchased several other lathes
and equipment and I produce approximately
35 to 45 cues a year. Learning with every
cue I make. I throughly enjoy what I do
and the customers satisfaction is
extremely rewarding.
Presently, my cues are used by some of the
top players in the North East U.S. I play
and support both Zuglan's Joss NE 9 Ball
Tour and the CT. 9 Ball Tour. My cue
business and the tours allow me to travel
and meet many new and interesting people
and stay close to the game I
love.

My objective is
to produce a consistantly firm hitting
cue. The hit, balance and weight are my
prime concerns. Using different quality
exotic woods in combination to acheive my
objective of a firm & solid hitting
cue with the beauty of the natural
woods.
Some of the "standard features" of my cues
include the following:
Fine linen based melamine ferrules,
"threaded" on the shaft.
Medium Moori tips.
Quality Irish linen wrap, color of your
choice
"AAA" #1 hard rock maple shafts.
Forward weighted
3/8 x 10 special shouldered pin, available
in steel or titanium
Double black phenolic joint collars and
butt cap
Wood to wood joint
Handles are flat laminated for
stability
High quality automotice clear coat
finish
Other style joints, ferrules, tips and
wraps are avaliable. Leather wraps seem
very popular these days.
Wheather you are an experienced player or
biginner, my goal is to build a cue that
will best suit you and your desires. If
you aren't sure what you need, we will be
glad to discuss it with you. Give a call
or email.
